Water Conservation
In response to the Governor's Drought Emergency Declaration, the Stockton City Council adopted a Resolution declaring a Stage 2 Water Shortage Emergency on July 12, 2022. Effective immediately:
- Customers in the City water service area shall use 20 percent less than the quantity of water delivered to the customer's property as recorded by meter during the prior corresponding billing period of the base year. The Governor's Executive Order N-7-22 (page 2) identifies 2020 as the base year.
- Failure to immediately correct, cure or abate a second violation will result in a surcharge of $100.00 per day for each day the violation continues. Stockton Municipal Code Section 13.28.050.
- Outdoor watering is allowed on the following days before 8:00 a.m. or after 6:00 p.m.:
- Sunday and Wednesday: Addresses ending in 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, and properties without a designated street number.
- Tuesday and Saturday: Addresses ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9.
- Monday, Thursday and Friday: Outdoor watering is not permitted.
The City Council also approved the following additional water use restrictions:

A postcard was sent to customers notifying them about the implementation of a Stage 2 Water Shortage Emergency.
Pools
Written authorization from the MUD is required to drain or refill a pool between June 1 and October 1. In accordance with Stockton Municipal Code 13.08.180, all swimming pool water must be discharged into a sanitary sewer. Water from swimming pools whether public or private shall not be discharged into a storm sewer or gutter.

Conservation Kits
Water-saving tool kits are available to residential customers in the City of Stockton water service area while supplies last.
Kits may include a kitchen faucet aerator, bathroom faucet aerator, toilet tablet to test for leaks, toilet flapper, and water use checklist to identify potential water leaks in and around the home.
Request a water conservation kit by emailing WaterFacts@stocktonca.gov. Kits are provided free of charge for customers in the City of Stockton water service area.
School Programs
The City and the Stockton Area Water Suppliers (SAWS) provide in-class, after-school, and assembly programs to promote water conservation.
