Running for Office

The City Clerk's Office has prepared a Candidate Handbook reference for candidates running for City Council.  For a copy of the handbook, please download the Candidate Handbook or contact the City Clerk's office.

If you are considering running for office, please refer to:



  • Must reside in and be a qualified elector (registered voter) of the district from which nominated and elected, for a period of not less than thirty (30) days prior to the filing of the nomination papers.
  • Must reside in the district during term of office.  Any member moving from said district during the term shall automatically forfeit office.
  • Shall not hold any other City office or City employment during the term elected to the Council.
  • Must declare under oath to accept the office in the event of election and to support and defend the Constitution of the United States and of the State of California.


State of California Requirements

City Council Members are elected officers identified in Government Code Section 87200 and must file Statements of Economic Interests (Form 700) with the City Clerk's office.  Copies of the Statements of Economic interests filed by the above elected officers may be obtained by visiting the offices of the FPPC or the City Clerk's office:
