Sperry Road Extension
Project Description
The purpose of the Sperry Road Extension Project is to construct 1-mile of new elevated roadway between Performance Drive in the east and French Camp Road in the west, providing a much needed cross-town route from I-5 to Stockton's Metropolitan Airport.
This project includes a raised median and sidewalk on the south side for pedestrian and bicycle use. Construction includes five new bridges over French Camp Slough, El Dorado Street, McKinley Avenue, and three Union Pacific Railroad tracks. The existing intersection of Performance Drive and Sperry Road will be constructed out of concrete pavement, and a new traffic signal will be installed.
A portion of Sperry Road at the east end of the project area would be realigned to provide surface access to McKinley Avenue near the west end of the project area. Sperry Road would connect at the intersection of French Camp Road, Frank West Circle and Sperry Road. (See Project Map)
Project construction began on September 1, 2011 and completion is anticipated for Fall 2013. The current construction consists of four lanes (two in each direction). A future alternative would consist of an eight-lane Sperry Road.
