Overview

The City has 66 city parks and many open spaces maintained by licensed landscape contractors. City parks range from two-acre neighborhood sites to 64-acre community parks with a wide range of activities – from picnic areas, game courts, swimming pools, ball diamonds, soccer fields, tot lots, fountains, tennis courts, and more.

About half of the City parks have restrooms. Some larger sites have community centers and others have larger complexes, such as Oak Park's Billy Hebert Field and Pixie Woods at Louis Park.

Maintenance

Parks maintenance includes regularly scheduled mowing, edging, shrub trimming, fertilizing, litter/trash collection, graffiti abatement, weed control, minor tree work, and turf aeration. For parks with restrooms or play equipment, the contractor also provides janitorial cleaning and play equipment inspection.  Please note that bathrooms found with vandalism and/or plumbing issues are immediately locked and unavailable.

New Restrooms Available at Four City Parks

New self-cleaning, contactless restrooms have been installed at Victory Park, Fremont Park, Stribley Park, and Oak Park. These new restrooms offer available facilities to extend time outdoors when using these City parks.

• Each restroom has two sides that are ADA accessible.
• Sink, hand dryer, soap, and toilet paper dispensers are all recessed into the wall and are activated with a wave of the hand.
• Sanitizer is applied at regular intervals throughout the day.
• After multiple uses, the door will close/lock and the facility will go through a longer sanitation cycle.
• Restrooms are available for use during the day; light displays on panels next to each door indicate the status, for example, open/closed, in-use/available.
• Funding for these facilities was provided through the CARES Act. The total cost of the site-preparation and the new restrooms is $1.4 million.
